Charitable Giving

In 2018, it was estimated that $427.71 billion was donated to U.S. charities1. As we near the end of the year, it is inevitable that the topic of charity giving comes up as 30% of annual giving occurs in December  and 10% occurs on the last three days of the year2.

At Destination Wealth Management (DWM), we strongly believe in investing in our community and giving back. It is one of our core values; making a positive difference.

With that creed in place, DWM endows The KeKokua Foundation (www.kekokua.org). This foundation was created to directly support and foster charities that provide educational services, advocacy, and supportive resources to the community. * We have donated to multiple charities the past number of years, some of them being KQED, Operation Freedom Paws and the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital

As you decide where you may want to donate your money this year, we’ve come up with a list of websites that may help identity causes that are worth your time (and money).

1. GiveWell
GiveWell focuses on charities that make a measurable impact. Their criteria are made up of: evidence of effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, room for more funding and transparency.

2. Charity Navigator
Charity Navigator evaluates charities based on their financial health and accountability/transparency. Based on how the charity is rated, they assign an overall rating from zero to four stars.

3. Charity Watch
Charity Watch was founded by the American Institute of Philanthropy (AIP) that grades charities on their effectiveness. They analyze financial documents to identify whether charities meet their standards of financial efficiency.

If you have any questions about the above and/or want to learn about how Destination Wealth Management gives back to our community, please contact us at info@destinationwm.com.
