The Beta Name Selloff


High beta names that have driven market returns higher are finally correcting downward. This includes high price earning ratio technology stocks as well as biotech.

We are not surprised to see momentum names under pressure. It has been our view that the rally forward in high valuation stocks has been overdone and that a pause was likely. In the end, stocks must be valued for the future cash flow of these names. While highly volatile names oftentimes have greater potential, there is greater risk associated with speculating on these company's future profits.
