Destination Wealth Management was included in the 2020 Financial Times “FT 300: Top Registered Investment Advisers” (FT 300) list, which recognizes top independent RIA firms from across the U.S. Over 2,000 qualifying SEC registered RIA companies were invited to participate in the review process. Some 760 firms applied and were considered for inclusion in the FT 300 list, meeting the following minimum criteria: manage at least $300 million assets under management (AUM) as of 12/31/19; no more than 75% of its practice’s assets be institutional; and the RIA must be independent (it cannot be the RIA arm of a broker-dealer, for example). The final list was comprised of the top 300 RIA firms listed by state and alphabetically by business name. The Financial Times placed a cap on the number of advisers from any one state, corresponding to the distribution of millionaires across the US.
Research for this seventh annual FT 300 ranking list was produced on behalf of the Financial Times by Ignites Research, a division of Money-Media, Inc. and a Financial Times sister publication that conducts research and analysis on the investment management industry. The FT 300 rankings were determined by an internal score generated for each applicant, based data gathered from RIA firms, regulatory disclosures, and the Financial Time’s research. Six primary factors were considered: AUM; AUM growth rate; years the firm has been in existence; industry certifications of staff; SEC compliance record; and online accessibility. AUM comprised approximately 72% of each advisor’s score, while asset growth accounted for an average of 15%.
